Assessing the social and economic impacts of past and future sustainable transport policy in Europe
September 18th, 2013, Brussels, Belgium
Topic: Assessing the social and economic impacts of past and future sustainable transport policy in Europe
Venue: Diamant Business and Conference Center, Bd. A Reyerslaan 80, 1030 Brussels
Project and conference objectives
The ASSIST project aimed at providing the EU with sound policy advice on possible social and economic impacts of future sustainable transport policies. It analyses how such policies could potentially contribute to achieve the strategic objectives of the EU. To this end the project is developing the Handbook of social and economic impacts of sustainable transport policy to support impact assessments undertaken by the EC.
Second, the ASSIST project analyzed potential future challenges of transport and how these could affect the impacts of transport policies. These findings were discussed with stakeholders and feed into the other activities of the project.
Third, based on the ASTRA model the ASTRA-EC model was conceived and developed enabling user friendly transport policy assessment and scenario analyses. The model was adapted to deal with future challenges and social aspects in a more sophisticated manner thus supporting European transport policy impact assessments.
These results have been presented at the Final Conference to an audience of more than 50 policy-makers, academics and representatives of NGOs from industry and civil society. The programme, an input document, a summary of the workshop, and the presentations can be downloaded in the following sections.
